Co-Captains John Holmes and Greg Scrittorale

Once again, Albany Valve & Fitting Co. is a sponsor of the Saratoga, N.Y. Tour de Cure, which is June 4. This year’s Co-Captains are John Holmes, Sales Manager and Greg Scrittorale, Operations Manager.

“I participate because it’s a great experience, great exercise, and for a great cause,” Greg Scrittorale said. “Being Co-Captains means a lot as it shows that others have the confidence in John and me to achieve our team’s goals. We will ensure our team a great time and a great outcome to help the fight against diabetes.”

“Whenever you can do one of your favorite hobbies for a good cause, it makes sense,” John Holmes said.  “After my first Tour when I saw the young Red Riders, I realized I hadn’t thought about juvenile diabetes before. We can do more. I’m looking forward to raising as much money possible for the cause.”

“This year’s fundraising goal for the Saratoga Tour de Cure is $1.1 million,” Nicole DeCelle, Market Executive Director said. “It’s a hefty goal, but thanks to the continued support of our valued  sponsors and riders like our partners at Swagelok Albany we’re off to a very promising start. When you register for the Tour de Cure you become a part of the American Diabetes Association’s largest fundraising event. You join the ranks of thousands of participants from around the country who come together to directly impact the lives of people living with the daily challenges of diabetes and their loved ones.”

Both Scrittorale and Holmes have experience with diabetes in their families.

“Diabetes has had a pretty large impact on some of my uncles,” Scrittorale said. “Bringing awareness to this disease and raising money to fight it helps decrease the chances of my family and others to be diagnosed with diabetes in the future. The money that Tour raises will support critical diabetes research, accelerating progress toward prevention, better treatments, better care, and ultimate cures.”

“My father just got diagnosed,” Holmes said. “Luckily he doesn’t have to start injections, as he’ll be taking a pill. There’s a company in Connecticut that’s working on an inhaler. I’m happy to help support research being done to develop medicines and therapy that are non-invasive. They’ll provide better quality of life for those who are suffering.”
